Program Description

The Master of Public Health – Executive, abbreviated as M.P.H. (Executive) is a carefully craGed academic degree, in consultation with the leading academicians and practitioners across the globe. The program design is based on Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Learning Outcome Based Curriculum Framework (LOCF) introduced by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The M.P.H. (Executive) program has been developed in line with the policy guidelines suggested by national and international professional bodies and other agencies in area of public health and development. The program offers great flexibility in terms of horizontal and vertical mobility through pragmatic credit transfer system. The program design is guided by IIHMRU philosophy of research-driven knowledge co-creation and learning. We are confident that the executives will find the program contents and andragogy quite engaging and flexible, contributing to high-quality executive development needs.
The Executive MPH (Executive) program is designed to equip working professionals in public health and related areas with the knowledge, skills, and competencies, required to effective manage under the challenges of the emerging healthcare environment. M.P.H. (Executive) is a 2-year program (Table 1.0), organized in four executive academic semesters. Each Semester offers a prescribed number of courses/ credits, which are spread in 15-18 weeks of academic work. Our program design is innovative and blends technology in an innovative manner to enhance effectiveness of classroom teaching and learning. In addition to the theoretical understanding, the learning in most of the courses are assessed through the degree of competency in the practical application of the concepts in a real-work environment. The learning outcomes, course-contents and andragogy is benchmarked with the standards provided by the relevant regulatory bodies as well as the leading universities nationally and internationally. The program also offers exit point with the option to earn Post Graduate Executive Diploma in Public Health Management and Practice (PGD-PHMP) after successful completion of Semester I and Semester II. The program has been designed and developed by SD Gupta Health of Public Health and offered by the Executive Education Division of the University.
The Executive Education Division of the IIHMR University has more than three decades of experience in designing and delivering high-quality need-based open enrolment Management Development Programmes (MDPs) and Customized Training Programmes (CTPs). With than 2000 executive alumni base in all continents of the world, the division has served to the training and executive development needs of the leading multinational corporations, healthcare organizations, international non-governmental agencies as well as international agencies like WHO, UNDP, UNICEF to name a few. In view of the new education policy (NEP 2020) of the Government of India, the Division has been designing and developing innovative, flexible and need-based programs to cater to the executive development needs in a responsive, responsible and flexible manner.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding about advanced concepts and theories used in the practice of public health management.
  • Apply the different tools and techniques, used in management of public health with emphasis on emerging public health challenges.
  • Identify and formulate public health related issues and problems, requiring management interventions.
  • Develop strong and effective managerial competencies, required to lead and coordinate the public health related work with diversified groups.
  • Effectively gather and interpret the evidences in identifying and communicating the different public health management related challenges to different stakeholder groups.
  • Adopt and use the technology driven tools and techniques in identifying, analyzing and solving the managerial problems in public health.
  • Act with strong ethical and moral orientation in public health management and decision-making.
  • Solve the executive level problems with holistic perspective for the benefit of their respective teams, units, organizations and society at large.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

In addition to the specified POs, the student will also be able to:

  • Understand and analyze the specific managerial issues relating to public health management.
  • Demonstrate ability in developing feasible alternative solutions to the managerial problems in public health.
  • Creatively lead and develop the teams/ units.
  • Act as a catalyst for sustainable growth through specialized executive abilities, as required for the effective functioning of the units/ teams in public health management.

Eligibility for Admission

  • Admission to First semester MPH (Executive) shall be open to the applicants who have passed the Bachelor's degree in Healthcare/Medicine/Life-Sciences or closely related disciplines from any recognized university or institution in India or abroad. The applicants must have at least three (03) years of relevant work experience.
  • For the prerequisite qualification earned from foreign universities, equivalence as notified by the Association of Indian Universities from time to time is However, in case if no prior equivalence has been established by any other recognized bodies, the decision of the Equivalence Committee of the University shall be final in establishing the eligibility of the candidate.
