Indian Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR), is implementing the project titled "Promoting and Strengthening of Milk Fortification in Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan with the support of the GAIN (Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition). The main goal is to reduce the prevalence of micronutrient deficiencies and micronutrient malnutrition in the State of Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana by fortified milk. The project intends to work closely with State Governments and industry partners to organize sensitization workshops, training, and capacity building programs on fortification and engages for quality assurance mechanisms according to the notified gazette of FSSAI standards.

Objective/s of the Project:

General Objective of the project:

Improving the availability of fortified milk through open market and public safety net programs in states of Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

Specific Objectives of the Project:

  • To build the technical capacity of stakeholders in the state government and milk industry partners on milk fortification.
  • To advocate for the fortification of milk with vitamin A and D
  • To support the state government and milk industry in creating awareness on Vitamin A and D deficiencies and milk fortification.
  • To work with state government agencies and other stakeholders to create a facilitative policy environment for large scale milk fortification and enhanced supply of fortified milk through large sector schemes such as Mid-Day Meal and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
  • To provide technical support to the milk industry for the production of high-quality fortified milk, as per notified standards.
  • To monitor the milk fortification process and assist with quality assurance and control.
