The Nestec-IIHMR research partnership is at the first phase which involves 6-month long (January-June 2017) desk research by IIHMR that reviews and summarizes existing research to inform the design the FITS-KNHS. More specifically, the key objectives of this desk research are to:

  • Review and summarize recent published and unpublished findings addressing child nutrition (from birth to 12 years) with a primary focus on dietary intakes (energy, macro- and micro-nutrients, food supplements, meal patterns etc.). Additionally, how factors pertaining to lifestyle such as physical activity/inactivity, family eating environment coalesce with diets, nutrition and health are also part of this review.
  • Identify and assess Food Composition Tables, recipe databases, methods and tools used in the extant studies in India, and pro that informs future FITS/KNHS studies in different Indian cities.

The desk research is currently underway, based on which we have preliminary ideas/suggestions on the methodological design of future FITS/KNHS. Our approach has been to conduct systematic reviews on variables/issues of relevance to the present study.
