Objective : 1) The objectives of the study were to study the present state of health care waste management in the hospital. 2) To assess knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) regarding health care waste management among various levels of staff in hospital. 3) To provide recommendations for proper health care waste management in the hospital.

Background : Hospital generated waste is a special category of waste, which needs to be handled appropriately with precautions as it carries a higher potential for infection and injury than any other type of waste.

Methodology : The present study was undertaken in Nayati Multi super specialty hospital, Mathura. Checklist and KAP questionnaire were used to conduct the study. A total of 100 staff members belonging to various hospital departments were surveyed as part of the study.

Findings : The obtained data was tabulated and the results were interpreted. The management of health care waste was found to be satisfactory in all the groups with need of more training based practice to the housekeeping staff. The KAP regarding healthcare waste management among the various groups of the hospital did not reveal any statistically significant difference in Knowledge, Attitude and Practice between the various levels of staff members belonging to same skill group.

Recommendations : The present study has revealed that the practice of health care waste management in Nayati Multi super specialty hospital, Mathura is satisfactory but knowledge, attitude, and practice among the house keeping staff were 32%, 56% and 40% respectively which is significantly low compared to other skill groups, it requires more training based practice to the housekeeping staff.
