Objective : The overall objective of the study is to assess the recent situation of LBW among neonates in Bharuch districts of Gujarat. The specific objectives are: • To study the possible factors affecting low birth weight among neonates in the district. • To suggest the innovative solutions for improving LBW cases at district Bharuch.

Background : In District Bharuch, the situation analysis reveals that there is a high prevalence of LBW cases among neonate. It also highlights that there is a need to explore certain health indicators so that necessary timely action should be taken in order to prevent LBW cases among neonates. LBW cases cover around 23% in the whole district and this is the matter of concern. Among the infant deaths of this district maximum contribution is because of low birth neonates which are found to be due to premature birth, poor maternal health care during pregnancy, other factors like age, weight, height, certain medical history of Anemia like cases also have an impact on neonate health and affects the weight of neonate. So, the study was done because of the alarming condition of LBW in the District. It also helps to see the impact of associated factors of poor maternal health factors on neonatal health. The study brings about certain points highlighting the problem area in the district. These area needs to study hard so that necessary intervention can be taken to improve the health indicators in the District. So, the main motive of the study is to reveal the factors that contribute to low birth weight of the neonates in the District.

Methodology : The study type is Descriptive crossectional, the method of sampling used is purposive sampling and the data is collected with the help of structured questionnaire from different Talukas of Bharuch. Sample size, n= 131, which was selected purposively based on a multistage sampling technique. Besides this technique data was also collected from District Health Society, along with this, the secondary data among different journals and articles were also used to study the in-depth understanding of the situation.

Findings : The finding reveal that the neonate morbidity and mortality cases are high due to LBW prevalence rate in the district. Further, it is found that there is a certain maternal factor which has a direct impact on neonatal health e.g. Anemia, high-risk cases, less gap among two children, the community is not aware of the importance of weight, poor dietary factors, etc. So, here we conclude that the identification of loopholes is necessary so that the necessary timely interventions should be taken with the help of different innovative ideas. In this study it is found that community needs to be aware of the alarming condition of LBW in the district for this IEC should be used for a target community, Nutritional support intervention is required to follow socioeconomic status pregnant ANC mother esp. during their Mamta day visit. Further, the ANC care needs to be strengthened in the District.
