Objective : To improve Quality of care during the delivery and immediate post-partum care, stabilization of complications and ensure timely referrals, and enable an effective two-way follow-up system

Background : The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched 'LaQshya program' aimed at improving the quality of maternity care in Labour room. The program aims to improve the quality of care for pregnant women in labour room. ‘LaQshya’ is supposed to reduce maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality, improve quality of care during delivery. The Program aims at implementing ‘fast-track’ interventions for achieving tangible results within 18 months. Under the initiative, a multi-pronged strategy has been adopted such as improving infrastructure up-gradation, ensuring availability of essential equipment, providing adequate human resources, capacity building of health care workers and improving quality processes in the labour.

Methodology : The study was carried at Comrade Jagdish Chander Freedom Fighter Civil Hospital, Sangrur from February 1, 2018, to April 30, 2018. Pre and Post Intervention studies were done to evaluate the impact of the implementation of LaQshya guidelines. It was a descriptive study, the data was collected by Direct Observation, Record Review and Interview (Staff, patient and patient attendants) and it was analyzed by Using Microsoft Excel.

Findings : The areas which showed major improvements after the implementation of LaQshya were: Outcome score was increased by 60 %, Quality Management score was increased by 30% and Support Services score was increased by 32%.

Recommendations : Implementation of LaQshya guidelines helped in improving the overall quality improvement in the labour room but still some major areas require improvements which will be fulfilled after the construction of the new MCH wing.
