Background : A Study has been done on the Kayakalp programme of Civil Hospital, Patiala Punjab. It is one of the hospitals which is focused upon Kayakalp program in the state of Punjab. Kayakalp programme has been launched by the ministry of health and family welfare, the government of India. It is a national initiative (KAYAKALP) to give an award to those public health facilities that demonstrate high levels of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control. Cleanliness and hygiene in hospitals are critical to preventing infections and provide patients and visitors with a positive experience and encourages moulding behaviour related to a clean environment. To continue the study, few selected objectives are to identify the gaps in various departments of the hospital as per Kayakalp guidelines, develop and implement the action plan for bridging the gaps of various departments of a hospital, assess the impact of the implementation of an action plan.

Findings : Results of the above analysis suggested that initially, the percentage for the hospital came out to be 60% and then after the implementation of the action plan “it was observed that the score increased to 76% at the end of 3 months. In conclusion, Improvement in scores is there but still work needs to be done to achieve full compliance. Suggestions have been given so that implementation can be done to achieve full compliance before pre-assessment.
